From the first shots of the Revolutionary War to the men and women serving our country today, this nation owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to our veterans. Even so, the simple act of reaching out to all veterans on Veterans Day 2014 (Tuesday, November 11th) to say “thank you” speaks volumes. NATiVE would like to say thank you to all veterans, and spotlight one of our own who has served: Casey Roberson.

In what branch of the military did you serve?

How long did you serve?
4 years

What were your primary duties during your service?
Interior Communications Electrician Petty Officer 3rd Class. I worked on the phone and cable TV systems, alarms, and other indicators on a nuclear aircraft carrier and enabled communications and entertainment for the whole ship while at sea.

What did you learn during your service that has greatly influenced you?
Attention to details! That was a big thing on the boat; everything has to be perfect! You never know when you’re going to hit a storm.

What do you do for NATiVE?
I am a crew leader for a PV install team.

How long have you worked for NATiVE?
1 ½ years.

What does Veterans Day mean to you?
It’s a day that reminds me that there are people out there that will fight for the people who can’t. Volunteers that risk (or have given) their lives so we can live the way we do, with freedom. I always think of the older generation; WWI, WWII, Vietnam and Korean War. It makes me proud to say I have served among the types of vets I have met from those eras.

I’m always reminded of the benefits the Navy has provided me and other veterans. I was lucky to be able to use the GI Bill to go to college immediately after I got out of the Navy. That was very helpful to get me where I am now.

What was one memory you have about being in the service that you could share with us?
One of the greatest memories I have would be friends & family cruise onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. My brother and dad, along with many other sailors families, boarded the ship for a day at sea. The airwing put on an air show, with sonic booms and all. We hit golf balls off the flight deck. It was great to see the Navy be so family oriented!

Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I would like to thank all the veterans out there for their service to our country.
